Funding Priorities

A minimum of 25 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race supports the national Komen for the Cure Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world.

Up to 75 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race stays in the local community to fund breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment projects.

Brief Summary of Priorities

Through a community needs assessment the following funding priority areas were identified:

  1. Increase the number of white, Native American/Alaskan Native, and other minority women in North Dakota who have year mammogram and breast self-exams (improve BRFSS screening rate).
  2. Build stronger relationships with North Dakota reservations to increase breast cancer diagnosis and support for Native women.
  3. Increase awareness of the increased survivorship of breast cancer through targeted public information (i.e. development of a statewide newsletter, dispelling the stereotype of breast cancer diagnosis as a diagnosis of death, support, and promotion of survivorship).

The North Dakota Affiliate is in the process of updating the Community Needs Assessment.  The assessment will be available April 2011.
